Sherry Tipton, Duran Adam, 2013
Turkish Afyon Marble
6' x 3' x 21"

This sculpture was carved in Turkey in May and June 2013. "Duran Adam" means "Standing Man" in Turkish, and was the name given to the peaceful protests sweeping the country at that time. It is carved from an approximately 2-ton block of Afyon marble, finished to a rasp texture to minimize color on the figure, but polished on the base to enhance it. Quite simply, it is a celebration of male beauty.
